My stay was brief; two separate single nights. The staff were excellent. I had dinner on one of the nights and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

My second nights stay was a saturday. This coincided with a wedding. I have no complaint about the noise created in the hotel as it ended at midnight. I do, however, feel that sunday morning breakfast was something of a 'bun fight'. A lot of noise, not enough staff, and a wait for various foods to be replaced. I would have preferred to be somewhere separate from the wedding party during breakfast.

An absolutely gorgeous room, quiet surroundings although no fly zone due to volcano - so no aircraft noise. Great breakfast and very helpful staff.

        • Couple
          10.0

The staff were very accommodating and friendly, even when we came in late from being in town, the bar which was closed was reopened for us to have a night-cap, which put a good end to a lovely evening! The room was superb and very clean.

The only thing we could fault was the size of portions considering the price, was the Full English Breakfast, and it was a little on the cold side.

Nice building and grounds. The room was clean and comfortable

Planes flew immediately above the hotel every 2 minutes until 1 a.m and started again at 6 a.m. although the staff assured us that the planes would stop at about 11.30 p.m. The noise was deafening. The room was at the front immediately above a fairly busy road and on a bend and an incline and cars accelerating past the hotel most of the night kept us awake as well. We barely slept. The room was tiny and very dark. We would think twice about booking a hotel through your agency again in view of your selling rooms in that hotel. The room was not worth the money

Staff were fantastic, they couldnt do enough to help. Room was amazing with great facilities and a beautiful view. Food was lovely.

I think I must have had an upgrade. I booked the standard room, but upon arrival I was taken to the rooms in the separate building, which I think was superior. It was lovely, clean and very spacious. I was in room 8 and it had french doors that open onto the countryside. The bathroom was lovely with a fantastic walk-in shower. The bed was huge (super kingsize) and very comfortable. Unfortunately I didn't have an opportunity to walk around the grounds, but what I did see was beautiful and well maintained.

There was air conditioning in the room but I couldn't get it to work. Consequently the room was very hot. To be fair, I didn't contact the hotel about it to see if it could have been rectified. The hotel is right under the flight path of Stansted airport, so the planes are coming into land very close overhead. It is very loud. It didn't disturb me - but it may be an issue for some.

          Sheer conveniance for Stanstead airport.

          Dinner Menu a bit limiting

          5.0

Nice size room and comfortable beds. Nice building and views.

Too noisy due to airplanes flying low over the hotel, no mention of this when booking. Pretty location, just a shame it is too close to Stansted airport runway.

        • Couple
          5.4

          Beautiful building and grounds.

Nothing worked in the room. Bathroom door handle was falling off, extractor fan didn't work in bathroom, the wet room drain didn't work therefore flooded the entire bedroom, aweful drumming noise from kitchen extractor fans next door. Evening staff were appalling and too young to care.

The hotel should warn guests that when using a post code in a car sat-nav to find the hotel the information is not reliable. The reception staff know of this problem so why is it not made clear on the hotel web site.

        • Group of friends
          9.2

The attentive staff and the constant smile.

The food in the hotel restaurant was excessively laden with salt and rather ruined the food. The flight path from Stansted wasn't as bad as expected but clearly was noisy.

        • Family with children
          7.4

Easy to find. Good rooms with comfortable beds. Style and layout of the property was nice, with a feeling of luxury. Staff were friendly and very helpful. Lovely location and the grounds were also nice.

The addition of a 10% service charge onto the already expensive dinner option. Incorrect information about the booking (i.e. 1 guest as opposed to 2, and initially breakfast not included, although this was sorted very quickly, efficiently by a friendly member of staff). Some local information about walks or other things to do in the very near vicinity of the hotel would have been appreciated.

        • Family with children
          3.2

It was terrible experience staying in this hotel. We heard the planes taking off every five mins - during the night. There was no door in the shower place - water everywhere in the bathroom. The space is very limited. Much worse- there was a big school party when we stayed - until midnight or later.

        • Older travelers
          5.4

Very Idealic place and beautiful settings, but be warned it hides a nasty secret that you will soon know about... read the reviews carefully...

Firstly let’s say that the grounds and hotel appear stunning, but don’t be deceived... The hotel is directly under the take off flight path at Stanstead (planes are only about 1000ft above hotel its that close to Stanstead!!!!) and NO amount of ear plugs will help it is incredibly noisy ... None of which seems to be mentioned when booking or perhaps I missed it....Secondly we ate ( or tried too) in the very expensive restaurant, the food was un-edible we could not even cut the steak it was that tough.. and service poor to say the least. The replacement meal was not much better.. Breakfast was so so, but the restaurant staff were lazy and lacked and professionalism at all levels.. That said the manager was helpful and did refund all monies for food.... None the less it did spoil the occasion... Be warned...

        • Single
          5.8

Staff friendly though no towels in room on our arrival.

I had been given the impression that the hotel could arrange transportation to the airport. It implied that there was a system in place. You should make it clear that you can organise a taxi for clients to the aiport which would eliminate any ambiguity. And... Further, the single beds had been placed in the room in such a manner that was uncomfortable. The headboards where in a different location to the beds, and as were the reading lights. . It was obvious that the previous occupants had wanted a double bed but the beds were not put back in their original place. This made sleeping uncomfortable and impossible to read before sleeping as we generally do..
